Merricks - The Sound of Munich

This is another album I got while I was in Tokyo over the summer. I've been curious about them for sometime after having listened to one song by them on the Bungalow compilation RO3003 which is this sort of over the top crazy song entitled "Schwabing Girls". It seemed wherever I went looking for like European/German club pop type stuff, their name came up, so I was really glad when I finally found a copy of their album. The rest of the album other than Schwabing Girls is atcually much different. It's really nice sweet electronic pop. Of course I have no idea what they are singing about, but the liner notes is very informative. That building up there on the cover is this building called Schwabylon that used to be in Munich, but was demolished after they went out of business, but I guess they were very fond of it. Anyway, it's rare to see a band that is so into their local culture (they are like they say The sound of Munich) and maybe unambitious as far as trying to broaden their sphere of influence internationally. I looked to see if there's anywhere on the net where you could buy this album, but came up empty. Anyway, I'm glad I have it.
